After 34 incident-free days, a sour note was struck on the cricket field today when an Indian photographer was assaulted by a police constable at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during the afternoon session. Local authorities have been prompt in ordering an enquiry pending which the constable has been suspended.

Tamil Tiger fighting heats up eastern Sri Lanka (Taipei Times)
Tamil Tiger rebels were setting up new defenses yesterday after regaining control of some the eastern Sri Lanka territory, including a camp that had been claimed by a breakaway rebel commander. The violent skirmish between the two rebel factions, which is believed to have killed nearly three dozen fighters, has cast doubt on whether a two-year cease-fire between the Sinhalese-dominated government and the main rebel outfit can survive.
