India: The Place to Be Right Now (The Street - Insight, New York)
There's a lot of buzz about India, and everyone seems to be latching onto its story lately. Even CNBC sent one of its anchors there to see things firsthand. While India's story started a long time ago, expect that buzz to reach a fever pitch over the next couple of years....The Indian tech industry is seeing growth rates that are not being seen anywhere else in the world, and every techland company has its eyes on India. Despite Win, Indias fate hangs in balance (Times of India)
India overcame initial jitters to beat Uzbekistan 2-1 on Friday in the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I Pool B match. Now, Indias advancement to the all-important play-offs on Saturday depends on the Korea-Indonesia result. India did themselves no favour by losing the first singles. Ankita Bhambri, who had played magnificently over the past week to give India early leads, surrendered to Uzbekistans Ivanna Isroilova 4-6, 4-6, thus putting the Indian camp under immense pressure.
Painting the men in white (Indian Express)
WHILE others tear off their shirts, wave flags and scream till they are hoarse for cricket, some artists strive to cling to their nonchalant, slightly irreverent stance on the game. Actually I hate cricket, says M F Husain. Thats a little hard to swallow since hes painted two walls measuring 38 x 6 and 35 x 8 feet at the Polly Umrigar Sports Bar in Cricket Club India (CCI)for free! Painting Gavaskar or Tendulkar would have been cliched, so when CCI approached me for the mural, I decided to portray the sport as if it were a ballet, says Husain adding, Sometimes it takes an outsider to bring a new interpretation.
