History & Politics of Israel
Israel officially the State of Israel, is a country in Western Asia on the southeastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea.
It is bordered by Lebanon in the north, Syria and Jordan in the east, and Egypt in the south-west and has a population of over seven million people.
Founded in 1948, Israel is the world's only Jewish state although its population includes citizens from many ethnic and religious backgrounds .
According to Freedom House, Israel is the oldest and only liberal democracy in the Middle East, consisting of legislative, executive and judicial branches. While not having a complete separation of church and state, the government (and most of the country) is almost purely secular. Israel enjoys a vibrant cultural life and has a technologically advanced economy.
Its citizens enjoy political rights and civil liberties that are comparable to that of the United States and the West
